Senior Executive - Procurement (South Africa)
Scope of position
The Procurement Senior Executive will support our business expansion in South Africa. The role will be responsible for managing day-to-day purchasing activities while working closely with suppliers, local teams and HQ to ensure competitive pricing, product availability and smooth procurement execution. As the South African business is currently in a development and growth stage, this role offers an opportunity to grow beyond transactional buying and gradually take ownership of supplier development, product opportunities and category planning.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage day-to-day purchasing and buying activities across assigned product categories.
• Source and evaluate suppliers to identify suitable products, competitive pricing and new business opportunities.
• Obtain and compare supplier quotations, negotiate pricing and commercial terms, and support cost optimisation initiatives.
• Evaluate product costing, pricing and overall commercial viability.
• Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely product sourcing, quotation, negotiation and order execution.
• Coordinate with local teams and HQ on product requirements, purchasing plans, pricing and supplier-related matters.
• Maintain strong supplier relationships and follow up closely on outstanding purchasing and product-related matters.
• Monitor market and product trends to identify potential new products and business opportunities. • Support supplier development and work towards building a reliable and competitive supplier base. • Analyse sales, pricing, cost and other relevant commercial information to support buying and category decisions.
• Gradually take greater ownership of category planning, including product assortment, pricing and product opportunity identification.
• Manage multiple categories, projects and priorities while ensuring accuracy and timely execution. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the successful launch and development of products.
Requirements
• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Procurement, Supply Chain, Retail Management, Marketing, or a related field.
• Relevant experience in Procurement, Buying, Merchandising or Purchasing, preferably within the retail or FMCG industry.
• Experience in supplier sourcing, quotation comparison and price negotiation.
• Good understanding of product costing, pricing and commercial evaluation.
• Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with suppliers, local teams and HQ.
• Strong follow-up and execution skills with good attention to detail.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work independently while managing multiple categories, projects and priorities.
• Commercially minded with an interest in products, pricing and market opportunities.
• Adaptable and willing to take on broader responsibilities as the business grows.
